Welcome to the mid-July 2026 update from the Leamington Library of Things.
Just after the last update from us, we spent two days at the lovely Leamington Peace Festival, the first day alongside our colleagues from the EcoHub. A large number of people came by to tell us they’d heard about the Library, so hopefully meeting us helped to embed the idea of ‘borrowing not buying”, as our T-shirts say. (And, not incidentally, as a group of volunteers we had a good time.) We had some plants and other bits for sale – and to attract people to our stall – and made something over £100, ample to cover the cost of the stall and a bit more.
Since then we’ve seen a trend to more items being borrowed, which we love, but our small space can feel a bit crowded – so please do go on being patient when we appear to be struggling or a bit overwhelmed – when people turn up to borrow items, or to return items they’ve borrowed, or just to ask us about the Library, or to offer us items for the Library, all at the same time.
Talking of which, we have a short list of things we’d really like to have in the Library. Our sanders are in high demand, and we’d be happy to have donated especially a belt sander but other orbital sanders too. We’ve also had enquiries about old media like cassette or CD players and film projectors, so if you’ve got something festering somewhere that you’d be willing to donate to the Library.
And on the subject of space, we are on the look-out for a larger premises. (We now have been generously given space in a garage for storage but it’s not so easy logistically; if you want to borrow one of the things that are stored in the garage, we need at least 24 hours notice to get it to the Library for you to collect. Items are marked on the inventory in that case.) So if anyone has ideas about where we could move into that is larger but still pretty central – and affordable, of course – we’d be very grateful.
