If you’ve never used a particular tool or piece of equipment before, we know it can feel a bit daunting. And if something’s second-hand, it’s easy to wonder what condition it might be in.
If this is you, then we hope we can reassure you!
Firstly, if you’re not sure how something works, just ask us. The item may already have some written instructions as part of its listing on our website, and for many things, we have either paper or online instruction manuals available too. We may even be able to give you a quick demonstration when you collect your item.
Secondly, whilst it’s true that many of our items are pre-loved (that’s part of what makes a Library of Things sustainable), it doesn’t mean that they are poor quality or not looked after. Every item is carefully checked, cleaned and tested to make sure it’s working properly. Where relevant, electrical items are also PAT tested.
It’s also worth noting that some of our items are actually brand new, and many are higher quality than what people might be able to afford to buy for occasional use.
So, please remember that you don’t need to be an expert to borrow from us – we’re all about making it easier to try something new, without the cost or commitment of buying it yourself.
